i went to the thrift store the other day, and purchased 5 dresses for only 13$- including an oscar de la renta for less than a dollar. the one that i'm wearing pictured above was 2$. my intentions in buying all of them were for the photo-op that we had sunday at the mansion. but i've decided that i should wear dresses more often.

i do like to dress up.
i like being a girl.
i like the way it makes me feel.

i discovered this amazing site, it's a guide to "wondrous, curious and bizarre locations around the world." now i have even more places to add to my growing list. so i'll share a place i'd like to visit every now and then as a regular blog post.

for my first post, i chose los pozas in mexico: the surrealist folly gardens at xilitla, built by edward james, an eccentric british millionaire and patron of the arts. the park is full of luscious green colors and dream like structures. they remind me of locations that were shot in the movie, pan's labyrinth. definitely a place that i'd love to see someday.

i can't believe how fast this week has gone by! sokai and i will be shooting more of his "dumping denys" project at this amazingly, gorgeous home on sunday. i wish i could share the rest of the photos, but what will be left for you to imagine? i'm feeling really inspired by sofia coppola and kirsten dunst for this set (are you at all surprised?)

have a beautiful weekend!

do you know the goddess who is karen o of the yeah yeah yeahs? how about the greatness that they've created recently titled "soft shock" off of the latest album? even better, have you heard the acoustic version? i could just listen to it forever.

heaven to my ears.

is it seriously july, already?

we went to savannah on a whim thursday night to catch the friday morning sunrise. after developing the two rolls, i can't say i was satisfied with most of the results. the first came out alright, i knew i've been sucking as of late. but what really got under my skin was the second roll. i probably captured theary at her best for my capricorn portraits. she is terrible at posing for photos, but she managed to do a really good job that morning. well to my disappointment, that roll had been previously used and were all double exposed with someone else's tacky photos. the horror! i absolutely have to get these done again.

and that is why we are going again in a few hours.
the dedication and drive..

i often times wish for an evening of peace and quiet. but my mind is always so consumed with thoughts. numerous ones at that. i'm constantly at war with the thought bubbles in my head. music is good therapy though. and this feist song, gets me halfway there.

sincerely,
denys

i took this photo of kara and kesh dancing at the atlanta indie fest last weekend. i didn't really pay much attention to it, but i'm starting to love this photo more and more each time i look at it. i love the way the photo captured movement at a stand still and the "ATL" tag in the background. it makes me feel like i'm actually back there at the bench on that hot sunday evening, drinking asahis and whynattes. the very essence of summer time.

i just uploaded a few photos from the atlanta indie fest here.

theary and the family have been in town from nebraska since tuesday. it was a surprise visit that i knew of, but i didn't get the chance to take some time off. and for that, i have been completely tired and feeling like i never left work. but its been worth every bit of exhaustion. the company is really needed, we've been spending a lot of time at our dad's house. it's also pauls birthday week so we've got a lot of things going on.

people come and go in your life. some decide to leave unannounced and some tell you why they have to go. and then there are those who linger around for whatever reason they may have. sometimes we'll never know what their real intentions are. because they'll never tell you. even if they tried. because that is who they are. and they expect you to accept that, with or without clarity. and there's nothing you can do to change their decision. although it may hurt, you really have to carry on.

enjoy it. embrace it. discard it. and proceed."

i did my first couples session with my sister theary, and her husband jack. i had an idea for a carnival/fair ground and there just so happened to be one down the street. i'm a bit rusty in the wardrobe styling department, but i think i did a good job at picking the outfits :) some of the photos are overexposed, but i still like them. they kind of add a vintage feel to the set.

love this 35mm film photo by sokai

we are practically day and night, silk and leather, complete opposites. and this photo really personifies our individuality. totally my desktop wallpaper for a really long time. i miss her so much already.

i just developed 4 rolls of film from nebraska. to my disappointment, a lot of them came out either under or over exposed. i'll be uploading them through out the week. until then, enjoy sokai's photos from nebraska. i very much enjoyed getting "dumped" for the past few days.
